How to Draw a Cute Rabbit Eating a Carrot – Step-by-Step Tutorial

Hey there! It’s Artie, your friendly pencil pal.

Today, we’re drawing a RABBIT. And not just any rabbit, but one munching on a carrot! You know, rabbits love carrots almost as much as I love drawing. Or maybe as much as YOU love watching great, useful tutorial videos on YouTube… If that’s the case, please leave a like or subscribe to my beautiful channel, and let’s get started!

Let’s begin with the eyes. We’ll put down just a few lines, weak ones, to feel out THE SHAPE of a rabbit, hidden somewhere in the white expanse of your paper… You don’t know HOW the rabbit will look in the end yet, so there’s no need for strong lines. The TIME for thicker strokes will come later…

With a few thin lines, outline the eyes, then move on to the nose and fluffy muzzle. As we gain confidence, we’ll press harder for bolder strokes.

Did you KNOW that a rabbit’s fur is pretty much the same thickness all over its body? But I suppose that’s true for a… regular rabbit. My rabbit has a hairstyle, so I’m drawing that now. It’s pretty simple… Your rabbit could be VERY DIFFERENT in this case. Draw any hairstyle you want – from bald like The Rock to a mohawk like some punks have…

After putting in the rabbit’s brows, it’s time to contour the rabbit’s head. I’ve left some space for the mouth empty – not drawn fully – so we can place a NICE, SWEET carrot there. Let’s spend some time DRAWING such a carrot and both front paws, grasping it tightly…

Please know that when a rabbit grasps a carrot, nothing can take it back from him – not even an evil wolf, or policemen, or even the rabbit’s mother who worries that her naughty rabbit eats only carrots and doesn’t want to eat other food that all little rabbits need to grow properly…

Oh my! Dealing with all this stuff, we forgot to add some black AREAS to make our drawing more vibrant. Let’s add the color of DEEPEST NIGHT into the rabbit’s eyes. Earlier we just outlined the eyes, but NOW we’ll go through smaller details, dealing with pupils, eye reflections, and other stuff… The cute black NOSE and hungry MOUTH are next in line…

Half of our journey is DONE already! It’s time to deal with the ears. One big fluffy right one and one big fluffy left one. Fun fact: Did you know that bunnies can rotate their ears 180 degrees? Because of that, they can easily pinpoint the exact location of a dangerous sound: the bark of a hungry fox or an accidental loud step of a hunter… Actually, these ears are also ESSENTIAL to regulate a rabbit’s body temperature. Their large surface areas allow bunnies to release heat and keep cool… That’s why bunnies that live in hot areas tend to have the largest ears! Not because they eavesdrop on neighbors. At least, not ONLY because of that…

Last but NOT least, we should deal with the lower part of the bunny’s body. We’re starting with the back paws, or let’s say in our drawing – the LOWER ones – because our rabbit is in a sort of sitting position… While drawing the paws, we’re at the same time shaping the rabbit’s belly…

There’s not much left now. We can put some strokes here and there all over the body of this cute carrot eater. Some we could add to his HEAD, some to his PAWS, EARS – whatever we may have missed before… I personally decided to add some details to the rabbit’s cheeks, so it would look MORE like his mouth is working, like he’s EATING something.

This job of adding strokes depends on our individual tastes only. If we think it’s enough – then it’s enough. We can STOP and ENJOY our job done in all its glory…

And after enjoying that, we can try to draw some other stuff… Other tutorials I’ve promised to make for this channel, will help you with that. So don’t miss new episodes, support me with a LIKE and SUBSCRIBE if you’d like to meet me once more.

I wish you a good day and an even better night. Keep your pencils SHARP and your paper ready!
